Understand the fault.
Agree the next step.

A lift that stops intermittently needs more than a description of its latest breakdown. Tell us what happened, whether the problem repeats and any previous work. Our fault finding considers the symptoms, available history and equipment on site.

We explain the findings and any repair or further investigation needed. If a component needs replacement, suitability depends on the existing installation. Where available, share the make, model and part reference.

How we approach lift repairs

Doors that will not close or lock

We investigate the door mechanism, protective devices and the signals that allow the lift to run. Wear, damage and adjustment issues need to be assessed together.

Door operators & replacement options

Stopping, levelling or control faults

Control, drive and position feedback problems can affect stopping accuracy and reliability. Control boards and drives can also be assessed for in-house electronic repair, case by case.

Emergency phone problems

A failed call, battery concern or change to the building’s phone service needs investigation. We can discuss a suitable repair or upgrade for the existing alarm arrangement.

Support around the way
your building works.

Our Surrey work includes residential blocks, schools, commercial shops and veterinary clinics. The equipment matters, but so do the people using it and the arrangements for getting work done.

Shared access

Residential blocks

Tell us whether this is the building’s only lift, who manages access and who can approve work. Clear findings and handover information help you keep residents informed.

Planned attendance

Schools

Share the site’s access procedures and available working times. For planned work, we can discuss attendance around the building’s use and the scope of the job.

Day-to-day operations

Shops & commercial premises

Let us know whether the affected lift carries people or goods, and how it supports customer access or deliveries. This helps explain the impact of a fault.

Site requirements

Veterinary clinics

Tell us how the lift is used, when engineers can access it and which site procedures they need to follow. We’ll discuss the work with your nominated contact.

Keep a clear picture
of your lift’s condition.

Maintenance should leave you with an understanding of what was checked, what was found and what needs attention. We agree a visit schedule and cover around the equipment and its use, with recorded findings to help you follow up.

Our Standard, Intermediate and Comprehensive contracts offer different levels of cover. Intermediate includes call-out charges, while repairs remain chargeable. Comprehensive cover is tailored after a dilapidation assessment; the agreement identifies what is covered.

Intermediate and Comprehensive contracts require at least six maintenance visits a year. Visit frequency and repair cover are separate decisions.

Taking over a building or changing provider?

Share the lift details, recent service sheets, outstanding repairs and examination reports you hold. We can discuss the existing arrangements and any gaps that need an assessment.

Repair, assess or upgrade?

An older lift does not automatically need a complete replacement. Its condition, parts availability, recurring faults and the building’s needs help determine a sensible course of action.

Resolve an identified fault

When a component or mechanism has failed, targeted repair may be appropriate. We assess the cause and discuss the work needed, including repair options for legacy equipment.

Understand the installation

If you lack a clear picture of the lift’s condition, a survey can establish findings and priorities within an agreed scope. Further investigation or testing may be recommended separately.

Plan a suitable upgrade

Where replacement equipment is justified, consider compatibility, retained components and the work involved. A modernisation survey helps define a proposal before committing to changes.

Surrey lift
support questions.

Can you repair our lift without a maintenance contract?

Yes. One-off repair enquiries are welcome. Call for an urgent fault, or send the site postcode, equipment details and a description of the problem for planned work. We’ll discuss the support and attendance available.

What if the same fault keeps coming back?

Share previous job sheets, error messages and a note of when the problem occurs. These help put the current symptoms in context. An intermittent fault may need further investigation, and the findings will explain what was established and what remains to be checked.

Can planned work fit around our building’s use?

Tell us about access restrictions, opening times and your preferred working window. We agree arrangements around the work and availability. If the lift needs to be taken out of service, the proposed scope helps you plan for that disruption.

Can you review a lift maintained by another company?

Yes. We can agree an inspection or survey around your concern, such as the lift’s condition, upkeep or completed repairs. Share the available records and the question you need answered. Compare our inspections and surveys.

Can you arrange our LOLER examination?

We can help arrange an examination with an independent third-party provider or put you in touch with one. Forge does not carry out LOLER examinations in-house. If an examiner requests supplementary tests, send the report so we can discuss the specified work. LOLER arrangements · Supplementary testing.

Will we receive a record after the visit?

Our job sheets record the work and findings for the visit, with the level of detail suited to the task. Call-out and repair records distinguish the work outcome from the lift’s handover status and any outstanding items. See examples of our job sheets.
