Define the purpose and the view.

Forge can assess and install lift-related CCTV, including integration with an existing recording system where suitable. Start with the area and the incident or security concern you need to address.

Camera position, lighting and reflections affect the view. Recording and remote viewing require suitable connections and arrangements with the team managing the security system.

Plan cabling and system integration.

Lift-car installations need an assessment of the moving connection and available cable routes. A camera that suits a fixed room is not automatically a complete solution inside a lift.

Agree which equipment is included, who provides network access and who commissions the recording and viewing functions. CCTV does not replace the passenger emergency telephone.

Agree responsibilities for recorded images.

The building operator needs to establish a lawful basis, appropriate notices, access controls and a justified retention period. Audio recording needs separate consideration rather than being enabled by default.

The ICO’s video-surveillance guidance explains these responsibilities. Confirm who handles requests for footage and ongoing administration.
