How to read the signals

1 means detected; 0 means not detected. These are logical states, not wiring contact states. A leads B going up; B leads A coming down. The processor counts their changing edges to track movement.

Normal travel: closed doors are not enough. Car-door and landing-lock contacts must be proved, the other safety devices must be healthy, and the drive must establish holding torque before the brake releases. The model waits for released feedback before moving.

At the destination, the drive stops and holds the car; the brake applies and its feedback is confirmed before holding torque is removed and the doors unlock. Brake command and feedback deliberately change at different times.

The safety-chain indication here includes the door contacts, so it is normally open while the doors are open. The other safety devices remain healthy throughout this demonstration. Real circuits, monitoring arrangements and timings vary; special modes and door-open re-levelling are not simulated.

The door-zone magnet marks an area around a landing. Up and down level markers overlap in this model’s level zone. Door zone alone does not authorise door opening.

Terminal zones identify the approach to the end floors. Separate final-limit switches protect against overtravel and remain unoperated during these normal journeys.

Pulse spacing and sensing windows are enlarged for teaching. This combines representative sensing principles; it is not a particular manufacturer’s configuration. Some tapeheads derive several signals from one magnet, and some terminal signals are virtual.
