Changing lift maintenance provider

Switch to Forge.
With a clear plan.

Reviewing your lift maintenance? We’ll discuss your equipment, the cover you need and the arrangements for an orderly handover across London and the South East.

One lift or several sites. Modern systems and legacy equipment.

Know what happens next.

You may be approaching renewal, reviewing costs or looking for clearer communication and reporting. Start with the lift you have and the support your building needs.

  1. Tell us about the building

Share the site postcode, number and type of lifts, current servicing arrangements and any recurring concerns. Let us know your intended timing and how the building uses its lifts.

  2. Understand the installation

Existing records help us review the equipment and work already identified. We’ll discuss any site assessment needed before confirming the maintenance scope and cover.

  3. Agree the maintenance

Compare planned visits, call-out charges, repair labour, parts and exclusions. Comprehensive cover starts with a dilapidation report, so the existing condition and specific parts covered are clear.

  4. Confirm the changeover

Check your existing agreement’s notice period and end date before committing to a start date. Agree access, site contacts and emergency arrangements, including who receives alarm-phone calls.

Keep the current support arrangements clear until the new agreement starts. A conversation or quotation does not itself transfer maintenance responsibility or emergency cover.

Bring what you have.
Start with what you know.

You do not need every document to make an enquiry. Tell us which records are available and which are missing, so we can discuss what needs to be established.

Use existing records and photographs. You do not need to enter the shaft, car roof or machinery spaces to gather information for us.

A useful handover checklist

  • Lift detailsNumber of lifts, type, make or controller details if known, and the building address.
  • Service and examination recordsRecent job sheets, logbooks, independent examination reports and requested supplementary tests.
  • Fault history and outstanding workRecurring symptoms, existing quotations, unresolved defects and work already booked.
  • Current arrangementsYour renewal or end date, site contacts, access requirements and alarm-call arrangements.

Missing drawings or passwords? Mention that too. Access to technical information and any restrictions need to be assessed for the particular installation.

A new contract.
A clear view of existing faults.

Changing maintenance provider does not resolve an existing defect by itself. Share any faults, examination findings or outstanding repair recommendations so they can be considered before the new agreement starts.

We distinguish the routine servicing you are arranging from any separate investigation, repair or upgrade required. The quotation and agreement should make the work, covered components and exclusions clear.

Our support includes modern lifts and legacy equipment across a wide range of brands. Where an electronic fault is identified, control-board repairs and drive repairs can be assessed in-house, case by case.

Compare the cover.
Then agree the detail.

The right agreement depends on the installation and the balance you want between planned servicing and repair cover.

A useful record.
For the next decision.

Our job sheets record the maintenance work and findings, how the lift was left and any recommended follow-up. A condition checklist helps distinguish items checked from items not assessed or not applicable.

It gives your building team a record to refer to when arranging repairs, reviewing repeat problems or planning future work. The detail depends on the visit and its scope.

Your questions.

Can you take over a lift installed by another company?

We support modern and legacy equipment across a wide range of brands. Tell us the make, model and controller details if you have them. We assess the installation, available technical information and any access restrictions before confirming the support we can provide.

Can I switch while my existing contract is still running?

You can discuss future maintenance with us before renewal. Check the notice period, end date and any other obligations in your existing agreement before arranging the change. We’ll discuss a proposed start date; we cannot assume the existing agreement can be ended early.

What if service records or drawings are missing?

Start with the information you have. Tell us about missing records, drawings or technical access, and share any independent examination reports. We’ll discuss what assessment or further information is needed; not every missing document can be replaced immediately.

Will outstanding repairs be included in the new contract?

That depends on the agreed scope. Existing faults and recommended repairs need to be reviewed and identified separately. Comprehensive cover follows a dilapidation report and covers specific parts of the installation under the agreement. It is not a promise to include all pre-existing repairs.

Does changing maintenance provider replace our LOLER examination?

No. Maintenance and thorough examination are separate. Forge can help arrange examinations through independent third-party providers or put you in touch directly. Share your current report and next due date when discussing the handover.

Independent LOLER examination support
Do we need to change our lift emergency phone?

Not necessarily. As part of planning the handover, confirm who receives alarm calls and whether the existing emergency communication arrangement needs updating. Changes to programming, connectivity or equipment are assessed for your installation and agreed separately where needed.

How quickly can maintenance start?

The start date depends on the current agreement, available records, equipment assessment and the arrangements needed for your site. Tell us your intended date early so we can discuss what is practical. Call directly if the lift needs urgent attention before then.
